Notes
Notes: The end of Women Are Smarter was cut and most of Drums
was missing from the MAC. A lenghty patch (7:53) was taken from
Shnid-14197, starting at 7:44 of Women Are Smarter, and going to
6:52 of Drums. Soundforge was used to add the patch, to repair
the pitch of Shnid-14197, and to make fades. The break between
discs is seamless for reassembly onto longer media. Taped and
transfered thru CDR by Jon Pasternak. EAC thru FLAC by Andrew F.

Subject: Incredible Show - So-so Recording
The Ship of Fools is the best I've ever heard. I never paid much attention to the song, but had a totally new appreciation for it after this version. Amazing.
Other than those two highlights, the rest of the show is above average - pretty smokin' actually. Can do without the Brent tune (as always). Amazing musician, but his tunes are ugh.
I'm not crazy about this recording. I prefer audience recordings with a lot of bass. You can't really get "the feel" of the show when the bass is either to low, or one-dimensional. I hate soundboard recordings for that very reason (one-dimensional bass). My wish would be the perfect combination of both types of recordings in one - kind of like Europe '72. Anyway, I'll take what I can get, and I'm very grateful for these recordings.
Five star show, but because of this particular recording, three stars.
Subject: More Than Just Ashes...
(And believe me, I don't say that lightly)
Easily in my top 10 versions of the song. It's that good.
Subject: Smokin'!
Subject: An Unstoppable Force of Nature
Especially the A-bomb Scarlett>Fire and most of the 1st Set.
The MIDI garnishments are completely unnecessary (TOO ouch!), and Lovelight could use some back up vocals. But Garcia is peaking here, and the rest of the boys are carried away in the flood.
Good recording too.
Subject: Hey Jon
Subject: Jerry on the Strat!
Good Times could be fun when inspired and the vocals clear. This one has it. Great Stranger, Franklin's after that. What an opener. I like the Masterpiece with great backing vocals by Jerry. The Bird Song is quite the beast with Bob leading the charge during the jam. A must listen to 1st set.
Second set Jerry switches to his old Stratocaster. The Scarlet>Fire is tremendous and a pure joy to listen to. Samson again has Bob just cooking along. A real strong showing. Even the Women is upbeat enough to listen to. The Other One is long and charging with great trills before the 1st verse. The JB Goode really takes off with more great Jerry background vocals leading into the only Bid You Goddnight I attended.
Well worth the 19 year wait to get this. I am playing Franklin's & Masterpiece on my radio show this week. Peace
